Full-Time Construction Estimator

Job Description

Active in the commercial, industrial, and institutional fields of construction, MJ Dixon Construction Ltd. provides a complete General Contracting and Construction Worker Service.

We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to grow with us.

Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs
  • Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements
  • Prepare master format estimates (Class A)
  • Prepare elemental format estimates (Classes B, C, D)
  • Prepare estimates for general expenses and overheads
  • Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects
  • Project cash flow and financing requirements
  • Create and submit estimate reports, quote sheets and bids forms
  • Utilize quantity take-off procedures
  • Advise on tendering procedures
  • Analyze tenders and recommend awards
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems
  • Monitor and adjust contract expenditures
  • Prepare and maintain directory of supplies and trade contractors
  • Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates

Salary 38.50 to 40.00 hourly (to be negotiated) / 35 to 40 hours per week

 

Qualifications:

 

    • Languages: English

 

    • Education:

 

    • Completion of a College/CEGEP diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology/Technician; or
    • Candidates without the above education credential may alternatively qualify with several years of experience as a skilled tradesperson in a construction trade (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, electrical) combined with strong practical knowledge of construction processes.

 

    • Experience:

 

    • Minimum 2 years of dedicated, full-scope construction estimating experience in commercial, industrial, and/or institutional projects.
    • Additional years of construction trades experience will be required for candidates who do not possess a related college diploma.

 

    • Credentials:

 

    • Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses

 

    • Membership in the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors will be an asset

 

    • Experience and specialization:
